Southern Brittany
Our nearest Continental neighbours are the Bretons, just 120 miles from Plymouth as the crow flies. We have been visiting them ever since Brittany Ferries commenced operations on January 1st 1974. It is true to say that it has been an enjoyable experience throughout all those years as we have covered the Department from all angles.
With 1250 km of coastline, its sandy beaches divided by rugged outcrops and a level hinterland the region has everything you could possible want from a relaxing holiday. No long journeys, friendly locals, good food. Interesting locations and nice hotels are what makes it special and ideal for coach travellers.
Our base will be Concarneau and the Hotel de l’Océan which we have patronised for almost 40 years. The hotel has always kept up with the times and has modernised frequently over the years. Just across the road is the beach of the Baie de la Forêt. In the grounds of the hotel is a covered swimming pool, a jacuzzi and fitness room.
Saturday We pick up as indicated below and drive to Plymouth where we will take the overnight sailing to France. A cabin is provided. The ship sails at 2200.

Our drive on Tuesday will be to Vannes in the Morbihan region. This old city with its cathedral and cobbled streets is a favourite amongst French yachtsmen and its harbour is always full.
On Wednesday we will make the short drive to the capital of Cornouaille,Quimper. This pleasant town sits on the River Odet and we’ll spend the morning here. It is market day and you’ll enjoy the lively atmosphere of a typical French market. In the early afternoon we drive to Bénodet on the coast to spend a little time here.
On Thursday we drive northwards and make our first stop at Audierne for some refreshment and sightseeing. From here we head inland to the medieval village of Locronan. We return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Friday has been allocated as a free day for you to continue exploring Concarneau or enjoying the beach area in front of the hotel and the hotel’s facilities.
