Jazz in Spain The Panama Jazz Band (6 days)

This region is a stunningly scenic part of Green Spain and  is known locally as “Little Switzerland by the Sea”. Rolling meadows, orchards, wooded reservations,  criss crossed by streams and rivers. Looming behind the coast is the Cantabrican Cordillera on which sits the Picos de Europa range. The first sighting of Europe for the returning  Spanish explorers of years gone by .

All along the coast are rugged outcrops or little rivers coming down from the mountains dividing the golden beaches. Our destination is Mogro which is essentially a holiday resort. Situated on a vast sandy beach at the confluence of the Pas River and the Atlantic.

We’ll be staying at  the excellent, modern  4* Hotel Milagros Golf which is literally about 12 paces from that beach . Spacious rooms, an indoor heated pool, Jacuzzi, gym, Turkish Bath, Putting green, boutique and sun lounge will enhance your stay .

Sunday – We set off from Bath and pick up as indicated below en route to Plymouth. Here we catch the 1645 sailing to Santander.

On Tuesday we have an easy day and will drive along the coast to the fishing port and resort of San Vicente de la Barquera. We start our return in the early afternoon and drive by Oyambre Beach and Comillas to the restored medieval village of Santillana del Mar. We’ll arrive back at the hotel for a dip in the ocean and /ora couple of slurps at the bar!

On Wednesday we drive into the mountains a ride up the Besaya Valley. Along the route created by the Romans, to Reinosa at the entrance to the ski slopes. After sightseeing here we continue across the Ebro Dam to the El Escudo Pas and descend down another stunningly scenic Roman route, the Pas Valley, to the spa of Puente  Viesgo where we stop for sightseeing. We now continue back to the hotel for dinner.
