We know that many travellers were disappointed last year when we had to cancel the Christmas Special due to the early departure of the ferry from Roscoff. This year, there are no sailings at all between Plymouth and Roscoff after November 1st until March 2021.
We can run the Christmas Special with some adjustments rather than perpetuate an unsatisfactory situation especially as it will be the last one whilst we are aligned with the EU and Customs Allowances are very generous - very apt with Christmas around the corner!
We will therefore set off from Plymouth on Friday and drive to Portsmouth where we will catch the overnight ferry to Caen. On arrival we will drive to Bayeux where the weekly market will be taking place. After taking in the atmosphere of the market and doing some sightseeing we will now drive to the coast and the small town of Arromanches where the famous Mulberry Harbours were constructed to assist the D-Day Landings in 1944. The remains can still be seen at sea when the tide is low.
During the afternoon we will start a drive along the coast past the famous Gold and Sword beaches on our way to Ouistreham. Our first mission at the port will be to stop at the Hypermarket to stock up for Christmas (and beyond). Next there will be free time in the port to relax and have some refreshment. We'll lay on an optional meal for those interested.
We take the overnight sailing to England, reaching Portsmouth at 0815 on Sunday morning. We then drive back to Plymouth.
