Discover Brittany 6 days

Brittany is a very popular holiday destination and it’s easy to see why. Low-lying and green with a 1250 km coastline featuring rugged outcrops and sandy inlets and no industry to speak of it just invites you to come along and take a closer look. As ever, the emphasis is on quality and a slow pace so there’s no rushing around and our hotels are extremely accommodating and crucially, family-run. Both enjoy excellent local reputations for their fine cuisine.
This year we have changed the format a little and are offering two different versions –each one is based in the same hotel for the duration rather than having to move out half way through the holiday as in previous years

North Brittany Coast Featuring Steam Train

Our base for this holiday is Tréguier on the Côtes d’Armor. The town is built in terraces on the side of a hill overlooking the estuary of the rivers Jaudy and Guindy. We stay at the excellent 3* Hotel Aigue Marine which is on level ground facing the yacht harbour. There’s an outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna and gym for your pleasure and the day starts with a superb and comprehensive buffet breakfast. The hotel has a lift.
This is a totally relaxing holiday featuring good local cuisine, interesting excursions and a very leisurely pace of life. No rushing around, you will have plenty of time to breathe! We pick up as indicated below and drive to Plymouth where we catch the 1230 sailing to France. On arrival at Roscoff around 1900 we then drive directly to the hotel and check in for five nights. A late dinner is provided.
On Saturday we leave the hotel in the morning and drive to the market town of Morlaix where we’ll spend the morning sightseeing and enjoying the market. In the early afternoon we’ll make our way back to the hotel with an en route stop at St Michel en Grève to inspect the vast beach and maybe have a coffee.
On Sunday the highlight of our visit is going to be “La Vapeur du Trieux”, a steam train ride along the valley of the River Trieux. We drive to Paimpol in the morning and there’ll be plenty of time to take pictures of the imposing locomotive before we board for the journey to Pontrieux. The train makes a stop en route at a Breton Mansion House where a couple of traditional musicians play whilst you sample a crepe and a glass of local cider. This pretty little flower-bedecked village has several bars, cafes, restaurants, galleries and so on to vie for your attention. You can even take a boat ride on the river or paddle a canoe. The coach will be waiting at the station and will return to Paimpol in the early afternoon for you to complete your sightseeing before returning to the hotel.
On Monday we will drive to Lannion for sightseeing. This riverside town has a cobbled main square and is home to the most modern satellite tracking complex. In the afternoon we travel the Breton Corniche with a pause at Trégastel to stroll the beach before returning to our hotel.
On Tuesday we drive the short distance to the pleasant resort of Perros Guirec on the Pink Granite Coast. We return in good time for you to relax around the hotel pool or down by the riverside.
On Wednesday we leave Tréguier and begin the drive back to the Ferryport. We make a stop at the Hypermarket and Red Cash Wine and Beer Warehouse then continue to catch the 1500 (first departure)1630 (second departure)ferry to England. This reaches Plymouth around 2000/2130(local time) respectively and after disembarkation the coach returns to the original pick up points.

The cost includes: travel by executive coach; ferry sailings; five nights at 3* hotel, all rooms with private facilities; buffet breakfast each day and dinner (with wine) ; the excursions as described; the steam train ride; Tour Escort.
