Wessex Continental 2018

Jazz in Green Spain 5 days

The Panama Jazz Band The band’s motto is “Happy Jazz” and this certainly reflects the members attitude to their music. They excel in playing the jazz classics but are not averse to playing old music hall songs etc. if that brings happiness to the audience. Don’t be misled by their fun attitude for they are also deadly serious exponents of fine jazz. We’ve been taking them abroad for over 25 years and they have consistently delivered the goods to their dedicated followers and won over new fans each trip.

Our Autumn tour will be to a beautiful region of Northern Spain called Asturias. This region combines superb beaches (and we shall be staying on one) with rolling meadows and orchards criss-crossed by tumbling streams with the backdrop of the Picos de Europa mountains. Add to this outlook a relaxing sea cruise and you have all the ingredients of a perfect break

Sunday - We pick up as indicated below and travel to Plymouth where we catch the 1545 sailing on the flagship “Pont Aven’ to Spain. Make the most of the ship’s amenities including swimming pool; cinemas; live entertainment; bingo; disco and quizzes etc. The cruise takes 18 hours. At some time during the crossing the Band will play in the main bar on Deck 8.
Monday - We reach Santander at 1215 Spanish time and after disembarkation we drive westwards out of the city and thence to San Vicente de la Barquera, an attractive fishing village and resort where we’ll stop for sightseeing and refreshment. We resume our journey and will arrive at the Hotel Mirador de la Franca which is situated on a secluded beach. We stay for two nights and breakfast and dinner with wine is provided on both nights. All rooms have private faciities. The Band plays after dinner each evening.
On Tuesday we make a drive into the Picos de Europa mountain range along the spectacular Hermida Gorge to Fuente Dé where there is a cable car. We’ll have some time here before visiting the little mountain town of Potes. Returning to the hotel for dinner, the Band will play for your entertainment until late.
Wednesday - We leave the hotel in the late morning and drive to the little port of Llanes where we’ll do some sightseeing and maybe have lunch before travelling eastwards to Santillana del Mar, one of Spain’s major heritage sites. We continue to Santander where you’ll have some time for sightseeing before we board the ferry for the 2015 sailing to England. Once again the Band will play at some time during the crossing.
We reach Plymouth at 1615 on Thursday and after disembarkation, the coach returns to the original pick up points.

The cost includes; all travel by executive coach; sea crossing with 2-berth cabin; two nights 4* hotel accommodation with buffet breakfast and dinner with wine; excursions as described, entertainment by the Band.
