The successful trip to Portugal last year showed us that there was a demand for a slightly longer tour and also a holiday in a different environment to what we have offered in the past. Consequently we’ve bowed to popular demand, proving once again that we do listen to what clients say, and have laid on a very interesting tour to Germany’s Mosel Valley.
We set off on the first day and travel to Dover to catch a late afternoon ferry to Calais. On arrival in France we then head eastwards to Lille and the Mercure hotel where we have dinner and overnight. Next day we cross into Belgium and then into Germany at Aachen and our first stop will be in the major city of Cologne. Resuming our journey in the afternoon we continue southwards and reach the River Mosel where we descend into the valley and make our way to Brodenbach and the Hotel Anker. We check in for five nights. The hotel is on the riverbank, has a nice wine terrace overlooking the river and an indoor swimming pool. The Band will play after dinner each night in the hotel.
On the third day we are going to cross the Huhnsruck Mountain which is behind the hotel and this drive will bring us to the Rhine Valley and our first stop will be at the wine town of Boppard. There will be plenty of time to sightsee in this charming town even to take a river trip if you wish. In the afternoon we travel northwards to Koblenz and will stop at the famous Deutsches Ecke where the Rivers Rhine and Mosel meet.
The fourth day is a free day as we can’t move the coach today. We will arrange a river trip on the Mosel in the afternoon.
On the fifth day we drive the short distance to the lovely village of Cochem where we will spend the morning. In the afternoon we drive a few kms south for a wine tasting before returning to the hotel.
We have another great excursion lined up for Day 6 when we drive to Koblenz and then turn right onto the Rhine to travel along its banks to the famous town of Rűdesheim. Our first port of call will be the Ansbach Uralt brandy distillery and then you will have loads of time for sightseeing. We return to the hotel and before dinner we will make the short drive to Alken for a wine tasting with Anton Hammes.
We leave Brodenbach on the seventh day and begin the journey home. Our overnight will again be at Lille. On the eighth day we head towards Calais with a Hypermarket stop before we catch the early afternoon ferry to England. On arrival at Dover we continue back to the West Country arriving late in the evening.
