Roger Marks’ Cornish Armada Band Immensely popular playing to full houses almost everywhere they go. A band packed out with personality and infectious bonhomie, nevertheless produces some very fine New Orleans jazz from its hugely experienced and talented musicians.

Jazz in Green Spain 5 days

Cantabria is one of the four Provinces that make up “Green Spain”and our destination is the small resort of Isla about 25 miles east of Santander. This scenic Province boasts golden beaches interspersed by rocky crags and behind the coastline is a land of meadows and rolling hills which ascend to the Picos de Europa mountains. Fishing, dairy farming and tourism are the main staples of the local economy.

Our hotel, the 4* Olimpo, sits on a small cliff overlooking the bay, has pleasant gardens, a small outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Good food, and plenty of it, is a feature of this friendly hotel which hosted the Band’s first visit to Spain over 20 years ago. As we are fond of telling folks who complain about the quantity of food on offer - you don’t have to eat it all!!
We set off from Bath and pick up as indicated below en route to Plymouth. Here we catch the 1545 sailing to Santander. During the crossing we anticipate that the band will play for your entertainment. On the sailing we are providing 2-berth cabins but 4-berth cabins are available for those who don’t fancy having to clamber on the top bunk!
Monday, next morning, look out for the dolphins as we approach the Spanish coast. When we land in Spain at 1215 we drive out of the city westwards for about half an hour and thus to the Hotel Olimpo at Isla and we check in for two nights. We have lunch and the afternoon is free until 1700 when there is a short optional excursion to Santona where you can take a stroll along the promenade. We’ll then have dinner and afterwards the Band will play for your entertainment.
On Tuesday we set off for our morning excursion to the fishing port and resort of Castro Urdiales. We return for lunch at the hotel and a free afternoon for exploration and relaxing in Isla before dinner and entertainment by the Band.
On Wednesday we travel westwards to Torrelavega where we start to ascend the slopes of the Picos de Europa and thence to Reinosa, a small mountain town at the entrance to the local ski slopes. We make a coffeee stop then traverse the rim of the Ebro Dam to the Escudo Pass at the entrance to the exceedingly scenic Pas Valley. We drive downwards to the little spa village of Puente Viesgo where we make a sightseeing and a late leisurely lunch stop We now continue into Santander for some last minute sightseeing. The ship sails at 2115.
Thursday - continue enjoying the cruise and early in the afternoon the Band will play its final session of the trip. We reach Plymouth at 1615 and after disembarkation the coach then returns to the original pick up points.

The cost includes: travel by executive coach; ferry crossing with 2-berth cabin; two nights 4* hotel accommodation with buffet breakfast, dinner each day with wine; lunch on one day; entertainment by the Band; excursions as detailed. All rooms have private facilities and the hotel has a lift. Cabins have private facilities.
